philips-dcd778.jpgA new word in kitchen entertainment — Philips DCD778 Docking Entertainment System. This iPod compatible, under-cabinet multimedia player has an 8.5-inch wide screen LCD display and can play audio and video from an iPod, DVD, (S) VCD, MP3-CD, CD (RW) and Picture CD. The system also supports a built-in ATSC/NTSC TV tuner, digital AM/FM tuner, two 2-inch speakers, cooking timer and clock, and wireless remote. Compatible with the fourth- and fifth-generation iPods, the iPod mini, and iPod nano, the media player is ready for shipping next week

Pricey at $400, the Philips DCD778 Docking Entertainment System will add that geeky touch to your kitchen.

samsung-72v.jpgSamsung is up to come out with two new Digital Picture Frames by May this year. At the CeBIT both the frames were featured. The digital photo frame with WiFi will have 800 x 480 7-inch screens, and support MP3s and movie files. The SPH-72P uses Wi-Fi to automatically discover and connect with PCs running Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Vista operating system and can display photos stored in Windows Media Player 11. The SPH-72H model does not have Wi-Fi but has a four-in-one memory card reader and a USB port. The SPH-72P can also display JPEG photos downloaded by RSS (Really Simple Syndication) from Web sites.

The Samsung SPH-72P will cost about $305 US and the SPH-72H will be $238 US. This always was quite a geek thing for me.

teclast_c280.jpgTeclast recently announced their newest player, the C280. It is the combination of Teclast’s two previous players. It features updated controls but has the same design and interface as their C260. Here are some of its features: 2GB memory with a 2.4″ QVGA screen, 320 x 240 resolutions. It supports MP3, WMA, and AVI files. It also has a FM tuner and recorder with Line-in Recording. The MicroSD slot allows memory expansion and there are pre-loaded Games, Text, and more. The battery will last for about 12 hours.

The dimensions of the player are: 80 x 47 x 9.8mm. It will be available later this month for about $65. Fair.

samsung_1.jpgSamsung showed the Q1 Ultra successor to the Q1 UMPC at the Cebit. An interesting feature is the split keyboard on the left and right side. It packs in 1GB of DDR RAM, 7″ WSVGA (1024 x 800) super gloss display, Bluetooth 2.0 and a 0.3 Megapixel camera on the front for video conferencing. A 10 / 1000 Ethernet module, Wi-Fi abd Bluetooth 2.0 on board. There is also Wibro and HSDPA for high speed browsing when on the move. It has onboard stereo speakers with a decent output. The Q1 Ultra runs on Windows Vista Home Premium edition. It is 228 x 124 x 23mm and weighs 690 grams only.

Samsung is also releasing a bunch of accessories like a USB keyboard, navigation pack, fingerprint scanner and the usual stuff like extended battery, data cable etc.

sony01.jpgSony Japan announced the XDV-100 AM / FM tuner which looks more like a PMP. The pocket sized device sports a 2.83 inch color display supporting a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. And the it packs in a 1 Seg TV tuner too so you can watch Sesame Street on the move. For easy menu access and tuning it has a jog dial near the display. Battery lasts 5 hours of TV viewing and 25 hours of radio.

The Sony XDV-100 tuner will be available in silver and black color. The unit measures 98.3×15.1×61mm and weighs 110 grams. It goes on sale by April 15 for 40,000 Yen ($ 345).

thanko.jpgFrom Thanko Japan comes the USB powered noise cancelling earphones. The main unit is is the size like the 1st generation iPod Shuffle, it connects to the MP3 player via 3.5 mm plug. The ear buds have a mic which guage the level of ambient noise levels once the noise cancelling feature is turned on and then send an equal but opposite canceling signals to the earphones. The Lithium Ion battery provides 15 hours of playback with noise cancellation, it charges fully in 2 hours.

Thanko noise cancelling earphones are available in Japan for 4280 Yen ($ 35)

energy.jpgSony Energy LINK USB portable power supply and adaptor comes with two AA rechargeable Cycle Energy batteries, which connects regular alkaline batteries and the NiMH rechargeable batteries. It fully charges in about 3 hours. The triple function of Sony USB portable power supply as a power adaptor, portable power supply and battery charger is the first of its kind to be combined into one device. The new power supply is compatible with most USB-compatible MP3 players, mobile phones and other USB-powered devices.

The Sony Energy LINK will be available early this summer for a price of about $35.

Wireless and clear in sound output, these are known to isolate all the sound around so that you can enjoy a perfectly clear sound output, wirelessly. Support wireless protocols like A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP. With a support for operating frequencies between 20 and 20,000 Hz, the headphones also promise high fidelity sound and a playtime of 17 hours before the next charge. This one’s called the DR-BT50. And there is a lighter weight DR-BT21G. It weighs a mere 63 grams and comes in black and white colors.

The price is still unknown but what we see here is a probable favorite of the season

olympus.jpgOlympus Japan has introduced the VJ-10, a radio which looks more like a PMP. Olympus put inside 37GB hard drive into the VJ-10 and will be selling them as radio servers, as the 37GB hard drive can record upto 2500 hours of radio programming. The unit has a 3.9 inch (128 x 400) monochrome STN display, USB 2.0, amplifier and stereo speakers which sound much better thanks to SRS and WOW XT. The VJ-10 can be used as a standalone hard drive too. It has a plain AM / FM tuner. Recording is in WMA format (32 - 128 kbps), the unit can be preprogrammed for 20 recordings which are saved in different folders depending on the frequencies.

The Olympus VJ-10 is 205×120x89mm and weights 640g. It will be available in Japan from March 16 for 40,000 Yen ($ 335).
